Choosing guide
Off-the-shelf or custom software: which to choose?
Not every business needs custom software. This guide shows when off-the-shelf is enough and when it starts to get expensive.
Short answer
- Off-the-shelf: starts fast and costs less at first, but the business adapts to it.
- Custom: the system follows the way your business works and grows with it.
- If off-the-shelf covers almost everything without side spreadsheets, it may be the best choice.
- There is a middle ground: a ready-made platform adapted to your brand.
When off-the-shelf is enough
If your routine is similar to that of many businesses in the same field and the off-the-shelf system covers what you do without workarounds, it is usually the cheapest and fastest choice.
In that case, invest in setting it up well and training the team. Custom software is not worth it just to do what off-the-shelf already does.
Signs it is time for custom software
When two or more of these show up, off-the-shelf is already costing you:
- The team keeps side spreadsheets to cover what the system does not do.
- The same information is typed in two or three places.
- The monthly fee grows with every person who joins the team.
- The way you work is what sets the business apart, and the system forces you to change it.
- The system does not talk to the other tools the business uses.
The middle ground: a ready-made platform with your brand
The TWS Store has platforms already built that TWS adapts to your brand: SalesAgent (an AI CRM for selling on WhatsApp), the Service Booking and Sales App, TWS Lab (a trading simulator) and the Multi-Level Marketing Software.
They go live faster than a project from scratch and can still get features specific to your business.
Quick comparison
- Start: off-the-shelf starts the same day; custom, in our case studies, takes 20 to 45 days, delivered in parts.
- Cost: off-the-shelf has a monthly fee; custom has the development price, agreed in the proposal.
- Process: with off-the-shelf, the business adapts; with custom, the system adapts to the business.
- Growth: with off-the-shelf, you wait for the vendor; with custom, the new feature comes in the next delivery.
How to decide in one conversation
Tell TWS how the business works today and what the current system does not do. If off-the-shelf solves it, we will say so. If it does not, you get a written proposal with what will be done, the timeline and the price.
01Can the data from the current system move to the new one?
Yes. When TWS rebuilds a system, it uses the data the business has already entered.
02My system was built by another company. Can TWS take it over?
Yes. The first step is to identify the technology it was built with; then TWS maintains and evolves it.
03Do I need to replace everything at once?
No. You can start with the module that matters most in your routine. Delivery happens in parts, and the rest comes later, in the same system.
04Does TWS work with businesses of any size?
Yes. TWS works with individuals and businesses of every size, in any city in Brazil and in other countries.
